Towns and villages of Cornwall and Devon
ST
KEVERNE
St Keverne is the
main and central village for the Lizard in the far west of cornwall.
Essentially just a village square with a shop, church and 2 pubs.
Excellent and friendly pubs -The Three Tuns and the White Hart (good food,
outdoor seating in a pleasant garden setting) worth dropping into to round
off the evening. The village is centred on he village square with the war
memorial in the middle. The church graveyard contains the tombstones of
400 men shipwrecked on the Manacle Rocks (the word manacle comes from the
cornish words Maen Eglos meaning church). Look for the name of Michael
Joseph An Gof written on the church wall (he spearheaded the medieaval
cornish peasants revolt and the march to London-against unfair taxes!).
