Wotter and Shaugh Prior villages sit on the edge of Dartmoor approx  9 miles from the coast, with some of Dartmoor's finest beauty spots and classic Datmoor  walks within the immediate vicinity.  The most popular of these is at Shaugh Prior Bridge and Cadover Bridge. Ancient sites of historic interest such as Bronze Age settlements at Wigford Down are easily accessible to walkers. Wotter village is actually on Dartmoor itself, so walkers can stroll straight from the village onto the open Moors. A few miles from Wotter is Shaugh Prior village.
Just down the hill from Shaugh Prior village is Shaugh Prior Bridge, an old stone bridge over the river Plym. Park in the large free car park next to the bridge. Cross over the small wooden bridge and you will be on the main footpaths/walkways. From here are many circular walks, the most well known being the half a mile walk up to the Dewerstones (an impressive large outcrop of granite rocks). The various outcrops have their own names such as Devils Rock, Needle Buttress and further upstream Raven Buttress. Continue through the woods and along the footpaths; eventually arrive at Cadover Bridge a further 3 miles upstream. However, it is pleasant to linger at Shaugh Prior Bridge; picnic by the river or stroll along the numerous footpaths. There are no facilities but if you are lucky there will be an ice cream van in the car park. At the end of the day get back in the car and drive up the hill into Shaugh Prior village. At the top of the hill is an excellent pub with good food and indoor & outside seating.
Cadover Bridge is a couple of miles from Shaugh Prior; although not quite so scenic as Shaugh Prior Bridge it has lovely  riverside walks and is well worth a visit. Large free car park  beside the bridge.
