Trellis Cottage
enjoys a beautiful and peaceful country setting in the village of
Wilcove,
East Cornwall across the Tamar River from Devon. Torpoint is under
2
miles away, with the large sandy beaches at Whitsand Bay also
being
about 2 miles. Approx 4 miles from historic Plymouth and its many
attractions
via the Torpoint Ferry (car and pedestrian) across the Tamar
Estuary.
Looe, further down the coast, is about 9 miles with Polperro
an additional
short drive. Trellis Cottage is a detached old stone cottage,
one
of four cottages on a quiet side lane in the village. A
public footpath
leads off from the cottage; a lovely 1 mile stroll along the footpath
through
fields and woods to National Trust property Antony House.
Antony

and
has extensive gardens and a well furnished house with original
furnishings
and a large selection of paintings by Joshua Reynolds and other leading
artists. The public may walk their dogs for free in Antony House woods
(marked up) but there is an entry charge to the house and
gardens.
Other Nat Trust properties locally such as Mount Edgecumbe house and
gardens.
Other footpaths from the cottage lead to walks along the estuary. Lots
of other attractions in the area including boat trips up the Tamar
Estuary
to Cotele House at Calstock while Plymouth has a lot to do and see (the
largest acquarium in Europe, famous Hoe & Barbican waterfront
areas,
the Georgian House and much more). A few miles from Wilcove
are the
picturesque villages of Kingsand & Cawsand and the small beach
(a small
boat will take you across the bay to Plymouth) and the miles of
stunning
walks along this spectacular coastline. In the evening walk down from
the
cottage to Wilcove Inn on the estuary waterfront and enjoy a drink and
food in the Inn’s beer garden adjacent to and overlooking the
water
(often
filled with colourful sailing boats) with great views over the water to
Plymouth.
