Exmouth is the
oldest seaside town in Devon. A genteel beach resort with 2 miles
of sandy beaches and fascinating rock pools; with a small harbour at the
western end of the Esplanade. The Esplanade runs along the
beach, with the town shops just behind. The town has a charming old
world atmosphere, with a thriving cafe life and a busy shopping centre
(the Magnolia Centre is a pedestrianised area of many shops) and an indoor
market. Due to the town's age and history there are many country
and historic town houses to visit; one once visited by Lady Hamilton of
Nelson fame & 2 miles from the town is impressive A La Ronde country
house and grounds built in 1789. Exmouth's Holy Trinity Church is
in the centre of the town, a large church and worth a visit. Visit the
town's Strand Gardens and Manor Gardens (Exmouth is well known for its
summer floral displays). Nearby Exeter is of great historic interest.
Exmouth has its own train station.
