Towns and villages of Cornwall and Devon
Camelford
The
old wool town of Camelford is a thriving and pleasant little town,
not much more than one street, but well worth a visit as there
is more to look at than one might at first suppose. On the outskirts
of the town is the leisure centre with a 20 meter swimming pool, fitness
studio, badminton, basketball, tennis, childrens activities. The
excellent North Cornwall Museum is just off the main street at the top
of the town and there is a fully furnished nineteenth century cottage
interior, complete with an old cornish range- with other exhibits.
Proceeding down the main street are many and varied intersting shops, pubs,
cafes and eating places. Both the Masons Arms and the Darlington
Inn do food (as at April 2006 monster morning breakfasts at £5 per
adult and £3 per child). Drop into the Market Place Gift Shop
and similar shops. At the bottom of the street is the attractive
Enfield Park, a good size park with childrens play facilities (swings,
climbing frames) and large tree lined grass areas for strolling in, bordering
the stream. Around the park are the restaurants and cafes. The Gurkha
Indian Restaurant, Hong Kong chinese takaway, Four Seasons tea room (with
lite bites), Riverside Restaurant, and even a fish and chip shop.
The restaurants and cafes have outdoor seating, taking advantage of the
attractive setting as several appear to spill out onto the landscaped part
of Enfield Park. A pleasant spot to enjoy a short rest and some refreshment.
