Calstock
Renowned as an
unspoilt and pretty victorian village Calstock clings to the hillside on
the northern bank of the Tamar River, a small and compact village
in the Tamar Valley. There are a few pubs, cafes and village shop. Plenty
of free car parking at all times of year adjacent to the quay, behind the
village hall. Beautiful views over the river with quayside cafes and pubs
with seating spilling out onto the waterfront. The Tamar Inn has indoor
and outdoor seating with good food and large restaurants. The Riverside
Cafe is an excellent spot to enjoy the view. The village is a favourite
for walkers. Try the under 2 miles walk along the river bank, through woods,
to National Trust Cotehele House and quay. There are scenic pleasure
boat trips from the Barbican in Plymouth along the Tamar Estuary, stopping
for the round trip at Calstock. Watch the passengers unload at Calstock
and perhaps join the return journey back to Plymouth.
