Porth and Watergate Bay
Watergate Bay
consists of a 2 miles stretch of glorious sandy beach. Watergate
Bay is 4 miles north of Newquay, Cornwall. Possibly the
best stretch of beach in Cornwall, backed by stunning cliffs.
Watergate Bay is a favourite for those wishing to avoid the busier
Newquay. At the height of the season the main beach area may be a bit crowded
though but a short stroll along the beach will take you to more secluded
spots. Smooth sand, clean water and excellent parking facilities.
Watergate Bay car park has toilets and a shower facility. Lifeguards
on the beach. Bistro with a bar and upstairs restaurant. Also good
food at the Watergate Bay Hotel. Takeaway. Cafe and a surf hire shop. Jamie
Oliver has his impressive new restaurant here, just a stroll from the beach.
Enjoy Watergate Bay's coastal footpaths.

Porth, a little
bit further down the coast from Watergate Bay, is a tiny dot of a village
bordering the superb classic sandy beach. This is of course just
one stop on the stretch of almost continuous lovely beaches which
run all the way from Padstow to Newquay. Porth is as good as
any a place to stop along this route and has a car park. If
you are a customer of the Mermaid Inn (buying a meal, excellent food, large
indoor and outdoor seating areas) it appears that you have free parking
in their own car park at the rear of the Inn. There is also the Sea
Horse cafe and takeaway. The surf shop seems to have surf hire.
Only a few miles takes you from Porth into Newquay or in the other direction
onto Watergate Bay.
