Newlyn is a famous
cornish fishing village, home to the largest fleet of fishing boats in
Cornwall. The harbour dates from the 15th century and boats of all
sizes share the harbour; small hand line boats used for mackerell fishing,
small crabber boats right up to large trawlers. Newlyn's tradition
as a main cornish fishing village is reprented by the Pilchard Museum,
a reminder of the days when huge numbers of Pilchards could be caught in
the surrounding seas. Old fishermens cottages lead off from the harbour
and there are good eating places and pubs in the village. Newlyn
is associated with the 19th cent Newlyn School Of Artists.
